The types of natural bacteria that reside in an infant's or child's intestines are very different from the types found in adulthood. Bifidobacterium infantis and Bifidobacterium bifidum are the dominant and most important beneficial cultures found in healthy infants and children during their early years; this product contains both of these bacteria, in strains which have been tested to survive stomach acidity and bile salts. This supplement contains a third type of natural bacteria, Lactobacillus acidophilus Rosell-52, which has been scientifically shown to survive stomach acidity and to reach the gut alive. At OptiBac they appreciate the importance of using various species and strains of natural bacteria - these three strains will target different areas of the gut as opposed to just one. Fructooligosaccharides (FOS), makes this product naturally high in fibre.
Having an imbalance of good and bad bacteria in the gut is thought, by some, to be related to digestion and immunity for infants and children, in particular in: formula-fed babies, babies and children on antibiotics, babies delivered by Caesarean section, children with regular colds and flus, and babies & children with digestive problems such as colic, diarrhoea, constipation and lactose intolerance, as well as those with allergies and skin irritations such as eczema.
The product is enclosed in a 3 layer laminated sachet for maximum protection against heat and humidity.

'For babies & children' can easily be mixed with your child's favourite foods or drinks. This OptiBac supplement can be taken with formula milk when it is at room temperature, but not when warmed (as heat reduces the viability of natural bacteria.) For breastfed babies, powder can be applied to nipple or clean finger for baby to suckle.
Take as following, or as professionally directed:
- Infants from birth to 3 years: one sachet per day.
- Children 4 years to 12 years: one-to-two sachets per day as desired.
- Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers: one sachet per day.
- Adults & children should ideally drink plenty of water during a course of live cultures.
- Best taken with a meal, preferably with breakfast.
- OptiBac will not cause dependency, and can safely be taken on an ongoing basis.
Live cultures are not recommended for those with serious medical conditions eg. those who are severely immunosuppressed, have pancreatitis, are in the ICU, have melaena, have a central venous catheter, infants with short bowel syndrome, or to patients with open wounds following major surgery; unless under a doctor's care. Furthermore, pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking Saccharomyces boulardii, 'For travelling abroad', or natural plant extracts as in 'For daily immunity'.

We accept orders from all over the UK and Ireland. Please note that delivery of certain items, due to weight restrictions, may not be possible to addresses in the Channel Islands, or in the Scottish Islands/Highlands.
Dispatch of Orders
We aim to process and dispatch your order as quickly as possible, and no later than the next working day from when you placed it (please note that we reserve the right to extend this dispatch period, and that for reasons of stock it will not always be possible for us to dispatch orders within this timeframe). We offer a range of delivery options – giving you flexibility over when you can expect to receive your order. We offer an economy service, a standard delivery service (which should take 2-3 working days), and an express (1-2 working days) service.
Orders to the value of £50 and over are eligible for FREE delivery.
Orders placed before Noon using our Express delivery service will be delivered in 1-2 working days (this excludes weekends and Bank/Public Holidays).
Express delivery is applicable only to orders placed before Noon. Saturday Delivery is not available, although our couriers may attempt to deliver to you on a Saturday. We do not dispatch orders on Saturday/Sunday which will affect orders placed after Noon on a Friday. Public/Bank Holidays may affect delivery speeds. Certain addresses in the Scottish Islands/Highlands, and in the Channel Islands, may be exempt from Express delivery.
Please note that we are bound by the Air Navigation (Dangerous Goods) Regulations 2002, which restrict the transport of dangerous goods by post. Certain items that are listed for sale on our website are available in limited quantities only. This includes aerosols, fragrances and nail polishes.
If an order is placed for goods that are classified as dangerous and we are unable to process the order, we will contact you and will keep you informed about how we can proceed with processing your order.
We are at the present time unable to ship goods outside of the UK and Ireland. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.

BFPO - British Forces Postal Addresses
We welcome orders placed by British Forces personnel, for delivery to a British Forces Postal Address. Orders will be sent via Royal Mail to the British Forces Post Office in London. At this point the parcel is signed for by, and becomes the responsibility of BFPO, to ensure delivery to the correct location.
Please note that due to the Air Navigation (Dangerous Goods) Regulations there are a number of products that we are unable to deliver to a British Forces address; including aerosols, fragrance, and nail polish.
Please note that a signature may be required for delivery of your order. In the event that you are not available to sign for your order, our courier may: (1) attempt to leave your order with a neighbour and obtain a signature from them for this, (2) take it to a local Royal Mail Delivery Office or their depot, for you to collect, or (3) make a second attempt at delivering your order to you. A card will be left following an attempted delivery, informing you where your order is being held for collection.
